KIIT corner glory in East Zone Inter-Univerity Games

Host KIIT University achieved notable success by winning two titles and finishing runners-up in two others of the East Zone Inter-University, which was held here at KIIT University campus from October 9 to 12, 2016.

University of Calcutta emerged champions in three disciplines, while Utkal University, Durg Vishwavidyalaya, Dibrugarh University and Pundit Ravi Shankar Shukla University claimed one title each in the four-day Games. Top four finishers in each of the nine events qualified to represent East Zone in the All-India Inter-University Championships.

Around 55 universities joined the four-day Games, which was inaugurated by, KIIT and KISS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta. The four-day Games, featured competition in badminton (men, women), basketball (women), chess (men, women), table tennis (men, women) and tennis (men, women).

KVS Deputy Commissioner AVL J Rao, KIIT University Vice-chancellor Prof P P Mathur, Registrar Prof Sasmita Samanta, Utkal University Sports Council Director Prof Jayanta Parida, Olympian Dutee Chand, All India Chess Federation vice-president Sekhar Chandra Sahu and AIU observer Captain (Dr) Shalini Malhotra were present in the opening ceremony.

KIIT University Registrar Prof Sasmita Samanta graced the closing ceremony as chief guest and gave away the prizes. Olympian Dutee Chand, KIIT Sports Director Dr Gaganendu Dash, AIU Observer Dr Shalini Malhotra, chief chess arbiter Suresh Chandra Sahu and table tennis chief referee J B Samal were present on the occasion.
